Texas Cake

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 Golden Valley eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1-teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa


  • Combine first six ingredients in a large bowl.
    Then bring to a boil margarine, water and cocoa.
    Add boiled mixture all at once to flour mixture and cream together. Pour into a greased 9x13" pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

    Icing:
    Bring to a boil ½ cup margarine or butter, 6 tablespoons cocoa and 4 tablespoons water.
    Add to enough icing sugar to make a spreadable consistency (approx. 3 cups).
    Add 1-teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup nuts (optional).
    Ice over cake.
    Best when served with ice cream.
    Or dollop with whipped cream and nutmeg and serve immediately.
