Combine first six ingredients in a large bowl.
Then bring to a boil margarine, water and cocoa.
Add boiled mixture all at once to flour mixture and cream together.
Pour into a greased 9x13" pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Icing:
Bring to a boil ½ cup margarine or butter, 6 tablespoons cocoa and 4 tablespoons water.
Add to enough icing sugar to make a spreadable consistency (approx. 3 cups).
Add 1-teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup nuts (optional).
Ice over cake.
Best when served with ice cream.
Or dollop with whipped cream and nutmeg and serve immediately.
